Learning and Leading Together

My role

Event design, bottle, shirt, pen, mug, posters, flyers, emails, booklet, lanyards, wayfinding signs.

The Context

This was the first time the yearly staff leadership training had a name other than "Leadership Institute", and it was rebranded to welcome a new era for our school district.

The Challenges

Learning and Leading Together took place when morale was very low. It was at the end of a summer where severe cuts had been implemented throughout the central office. This followed a one year stint without a superintendent after they were pressured out of their role in 2016.

Some principals reported not feeling supported by the central office in their endeavors while others were striving to show their school as a separate entity from the district.

The Results

I suggested putting the name of the event on its side, drawing influence from some research in jerseys and sports apparel. I wanted the collateral to subliminally imply teamwork and that we are all on the same side. Turning the design on its side also conveyed that we are turning the original school district on its head in a good way that will involve modernizing and creativity. Finally, I wanted the swag to be unique and clean- something that principals could be proud to wear if they wanted to.

The event was considered a success because surveys showed afterward that administrators felt significantly more hopeful for the future after attending.
